It Is Time For Spring Cleaning!

10 Areas to Spring Clean in Your Home

As the days get longer and the sunshine pours in, it's time to roll up your sleeves and give your home a freshening up! Spring cleaning is all about rejuvenating your space and finally saying goodbye to the winter blues. As Minnesotans - we spend soo much time indoors in the winter, that a spring refresh is so needed. To help you get started, I've compiled a list of the top 10 areas that deserve your attention.

1. Windows and Mirrors: Let the Light In

Start your spring cleaning by tackling those windows and mirrors. Grab a streak-free glass cleaner and wipe away the grime that's been clouding your view. Let the natural light pour in and brighten up your space. You'll be amazed at how much of a difference sparkling windows can make.

2. Kitchen Appliances: Shine and Sanitize

Your kitchen appliances have been working hard all year, so show them some love. Give your oven, stovetop, microwave, and refrigerator a deep clean. Scrub away grease, sanitize surfaces, and say goodbye to any mystery spills. A fresh and clean kitchen will inspire culinary adventures.

3. Closet Overhaul: Out with the Old

Say goodbye to winter coats and make way for spring attire. Take this opportunity to declutter your closet and donate clothes you no longer wear. Sort through items, organize your shelves, and create a system that makes getting dressed a breeze. A well-organized closet will bring a sense of calm and make your mornings more enjoyable.

Pro Tip: I (Paige) personally donate my lightly used items to Dress For Success Twin Cities. Their drop off location is in SLP.

4. Flooring: Refresh and Renew

Your floors have endured a lot during the winter months, from muddy footprints to pet hair. Break out the vacuum, mop, or steam cleaner and give your floors a thorough cleaning. Polish hardwood, deep clean carpets, and revive tile or laminate surfaces. Nothing feels better than walking barefoot on freshly cleaned floors.

5. Upholstery and Carpets: Banish Dust and Allergens

Dust and allergens tend to settle into upholstery and carpets over time, especially since we spend so much time indoors in the wintertime. Spring is the perfect opportunity to give them a refresh. Vacuum furniture and use fabric-safe cleaners to remove stains and odors. Consider professional upholstery cleaning or renting a carpet cleaner for a deep clean that will leave your home feeling renewed.

6. Bathroom Bliss: Deep Clean and Organize

Don't neglect your bathrooms during spring cleaning! Scrub those tiles, clean the grout, and banish any lingering mildew. Reorganize cabinets and drawers, tossing out expired products. Add fresh towels, plants, or scented candles to create a spa-like atmosphere.

7. Air Vents and Ducts: Breathe Clean Air

We put our air ducts to hard work in MN. From using the heat in the colder months to blasting AC in the summer time… The air vents and ducts in your home can accumulate dust and allergens over time. Take a moment to clean them out and replace filters. This simple step will improve air quality and help you breathe easier. Pro Tip: put a recurring calendar invite on your phone monthly to remind yourself to replace that furnace filter. It will not only help your furnace last longer, but help ensure clean air in your home.

8. Outdoor Spaces: Prepare for Fun in the Sun

Spring is the time to get your outdoor spaces ready for gatherings and relaxation. Sweep away debris, power wash your patio or deck, and freshen up outdoor furniture. Add potted plants, colorful cushions, and string lights to create a welcoming ambiance. Pull those weeds & really get those gardens in great shape.

(You can catch me, over the next few days, weeding the beast of a garden I have!)

9. Electronics and Gadgets: Dust and Disinfect

Our gadgets and electronics are often overlooked when it comes to cleaning. Dust off your screens, disinfect keyboards, and clean out any charging stations. Your devices will thank you, and you'll enjoy using them in a clean and germ-free environment. Also all those cords that accumulate with time… organize and decide what might not be worth keeping. I promise you, that cord that you can’t remember what it is for, is not worth keeping!

10. Storage Areas: Tidy Up and Declutter

Last but not least, tackle those storage areas that have become a breeding ground for clutter. Whether it's your garage, basement, or attic - sort through boxes, donate or discard.
